[Aide] Dead project

Hi,

I've been a user of aide for year but it looks like the project is dead.
You can't use it on a fresh debian 9.2.

You can apt-get install aide but it doesn't create the conf file, there is
no /var/lib/aide, nor /var/lib/aide/aide.db.

It doesn't understand simple commands like aide --init or /usr/sbin/aide
--init

Really sad about this...

Cordialement,

Declaring a project dead because it doesn't work from your specific
distribution's software management system seems a little premature.
Works just fine on Debian. To support split configuration, you are supposed to use ”aide.wrapper”.

.. Seems to work just fine on my fresh CentOS 7 VM using yum -- Sounds
more like a problem for Debian.

The date is 21st October 1996.

Why termcap should be a problem when you do an apt-get install of something?

I'm going to guess that your termcap package is older. This doesn't
mean that it is unused, insecure, or even maintained.
Please 'man termcap' and tell us what the date on the bottom of the page
says.

LOL! Nice one :-)

Age is not necessarily an indication of being dead. (I'm old, but not dead.)
For software it could just be that there have been no bugs found or reported,
hence no updates.

As I suggested, try aide.wrapper. Default configuration should be in
/etc/aide and daily checks are configured in /etc/default/aide.

Correct.
apt-get install aide aide-common
nano /etc/aide/aide.conf
aide --init
error
What error?
And, if you want to use default configuration scheme provided by
Debian, you need to use aide.wrapper. So:
aide.wrapper --init
